My name is Katie Shipman and I’m attending Whitworth University for my undergraduate degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing. As a passionate advocate for outdoor recreation, I find it my personal duty to create an atmosphere where it’s more accessible for college students to purchase recreational equipment that is affordable. As a child in a family of eight, I understand that my recreational equipment wasn’t a necessity; so I found different strategies to access this apparel. My solution was second-hand retail stores. At first, I was skeptical of the thrifting generation post Macklemore “Thrift Shop”. However, being raised in the Seattle area I decided to give it a go.

            First piece of advice before you decide to become a thrifting professional: develop a sense of patience. Patience is a virtue in this hobby. There are days where I walk out of second-hand retailers with bags of clothing and there are also days where I leave empty-handed. That is why my services eliminate searching for these apparel items. I now understand the time consumption aspect of thrifting and that is why the popularity has dwindled. Therefore, I want to continue to reestablish that full retail prices are not the solution for people on a budget! One shouldn’t have to eliminate adventure just because the accessories are expensive. Adventure Again is the solution.
